If you search for OSS you will most likely find Open Source Software sites rather than Operational Support Systems. Which led me to this thought. A friend of mine, Al Bell, an executive with a longstanding Telco for many years now wants to strengthen his OSS. How should he decide between off the shelf products, custom in house developments and open source solutions?
In particular I would like to hear your thoughts and experiences on the best application space for open source solutions within the OSS, where to leverage the most benefit from them, and the issues and risks they bring compared to the other options.
